Christian Dior is really a fashion genius, i like how he designs clothes and other stuffs:;.
Hi there, just doing some browsing for my Christian Dior site. Truly more information than you can imagine on the web. Wasn’t what I was looking for, but very nice site. Have a good day.
sleeve tattoos women,
All the folks observing look a bit confused.
A lot of these photos are taken in GUM which is a Soviet style indoor shopping centre or else outside in Red Square. A couple I can’t place. I saw GUM in about 1999 and architecturally it hasn’t changed. The only difference would be that western stores have now opened in GUM. ie. you can now buy Dior in these shops.
interesting comment TDK
The Dior fashion show was in Moscow in October 1959. It was the first time a Paris couturier had shown a collection behind the iron curtain.
That’s contrasting the U.S.’s high class with the USSR’s lower class; a more fair juxtaposition would have been the U.S.’s lowest class against the USSR’s lowest class and the result would have been the opposite. Furthermore, the USSR’s highest class against the U.S.’s highest class would have had the same outcome.
What are you TALKING about, Mr. Miles? Dior is NOT a US fashion house. These models are most likely not Americans. And the juxtaposition is not intentional; these candids were snapped while the women were there for a fashion shoot, this is not that shoot. Further, are you implying that the US does not have it’s fair share of poverty (I can’t understand your convoluted comment)? Have you heard of Mississippi or the Appalachians?
somehow I do not buy the stylizing of the shoot/ I understand that people in the 60-s were shorter and looking older than the modern days folks, but cannot be that much of a contrast in juxtaposition of common Muscovites and Dior models… looks like a scene from one of the Tolkien’s creations when elves pay a visit to Hobbiton…
I agree, Siberie. You can see in the shoot on the stairs that they’ve held the “regular” russian woman at the top of the stairs and included a stout,”peasant”,very ethnic, woman in the picture. It looks from the top of the stairs like Russian women dressed pretty much like everyone else of that era .This is creative editing on the part of the photographer.
The russian women in their peasant clothing, seemed shocked and confused,at the models.Reminds me of Rich versus Poor….
