“What would you do if you could travel back in time? Here’s what I’d do: grab all the modern technology I could find, take it to the late 70′s, superficially redesign it all to blend in, start a consumer electronics company to unleash it upon the world, then sit back as I rake in billions, trillions, or even millions of dollars.
“I’ve learned that there is no greater design element than the anachronism. I’ve learned that the strongest contrast isn’t spatial or tonal but historical. I’ve learned that there’s retro, and then there’s time travel.”
- Alex Varenese

It was old hat in 1977. It was actually invented by John Lennon in 1967. Here is the proof:

Well, who knows if the iPod or the iPad isn’t something bring up from 2077 by some time-traveller?
Even though I HATED simulated wood grain back then, I would love to have a laptop that looks like that now.
Just make sure not to bring along today’s music on it, many people might commit suicide or get a heart-attack, and then it could well be that you won’t be born!!!
you know, you COULD get someone to open the iPod, repackage it with your design, and sell it. those look cool enough to sell.
It’s not a matter of simply taking the products back in time, the problem would be that the technology simply wouldn’t exists to reproduce them. There would be no way to produce todays circuit boards and microchips back then. If you really want to make money, travel back to the mid 80’s and invest a few hundred bucks Microsoft and Apple stock, when you came back you‘d be a billionaire.
These look amazingly believable. The colours, designs and fonts are all very true to the era. If one could market an actual “pocket Hi-Fi” with this design, I’d probably be first in line to buy one.
