“Tetsujin 28-gō (鉄人28号 Tetsujin Nijūhachi-gō?, literally “Iron Man #28″) is a 1956 manga written and illustrated by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, who also created Giant Robot. The series centred on the adventures of a young boy named Shotaro Kaneda, who controlled a giant robot named Tetsujin 28, built by his late father.”
…..
Thank you to Maria Popova and Pink Tentacle.

At the top of the front cover (the first one), it advertises the manga as “A newly started Science detective manga series”. There still are references to Tetsujin #28 in many anime and manga now. I’m in the wrong generation to know much about it, but I’ve often heard my Dad trying to make cultural references from it.
So that’s what Speed Racer looked like when he was a boy.
Needs more giant robots.
Doesn’t everything, Roy?
LOL, Roy Mustang saying you need more giant robots. Are you missing the Elric brothers?
Is this manga the source for the big round eyes that are now ubiquitous in Japanese manga art? So chibi… yikes!
Hi Jinx, actually the “big eye” art is a influence from Disney. Many or the up and coming manga artists in the 50′s and 60′s had grown up on a healthy diet of American animations.
