“Hidden under the sand and waves since it crashed off the coast of Wales in 1942, the location of this Lockheed P38 Lightning has been kept a secret.
“Known as the Maid of Harlech, the United States Army Air Force fighter crashed on the Gwynedd coast in training exercises. Pilot Lt Robert Elliott walked away from the incident but went missing in action three months later in Tunisia.
“The previously undetected Lightning appeared on a Wales beach in 2007 when shifting water displaced the sand”

So what happened afterwards then? Did they remove it from the beach intact etc?
Neat! My Dad was in the USAAF during WW II and flew in P-38 Lightnings, so this is of particular interest to me.
Great effort. Fingers crossed we find the 20 ‘New Old Stock’ Spitfires buried in their transport boxes in Burma in 1945. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/asia/burma/9204921/British-farmers-quest-to-find-lost-Spitfires-in-Burma.html
The Lost Squadron!
As told to me by an ex-RCAF Merlin technician, the Spitfires damaged in the 6 Days War were buried in the sand behind the airstrip at El Arish.
That’s what I know.
