Damn I would love to have a huge vinyl collection, something about walking into someones home with shelves packed chock-full-a-block of vinyl’s just gives you a good homely feeling. Doesn’t bother me if their quality isn’t good or anything, something about them just makes me feel good.
I grew up in the 70′s, collected 45′s as preteen and Lp’s through High school. I still have them all. never selling them. Listening to records was an activity, not just background entertainment. I miss those days when you could’t wait to listen to you newest album, and you could listen to it over & over till you knew all the words!
the Marilyn Monroe photo was taken by none other than Harold Lloyd – 1920s silent movie megastar… =O) He was fond of photographing nudes, he took many of Bettie Page. A good photographer actually.
Ok, my last comment, I promise!
Here’s a link to another Marilyn Monroe pic with her records (from the same session with Harold Lloyd)… and Sandra, no reason to be sad at all, she seems fine in this pic! The camera just got her with her eyes closed that’s all…
That image of Bob Marley & the Jacksons has always confused me.
Are they sitting on a bench in a tree? I know it was taken at 56 Hope Rd., Kingston, JA which is now Bob’s Museum. It seems that the weight of all those dudes on a tree branch would surely break.
Great pics, makes me think of the billions of old records sitting in landfills or whatever. So glad vinyl is making a comeback for us retro types, yeah!
I totally love these pictures. I especially love the one with Elvis Presley on it. Even if he’s backwards to the camera, you can still picture out the King of Rock n” Roll in here. As an active ecosystem volunteer and concerned citizen, I just like to look at the pictures and see how they were before.
Jack Nicholson plus Angelica Huston
Wonderful photos. John Lennon’s makes me nervous though: they are going to get scratched!
Wow…I can’t even imagine that. Now we just stare blankly at tiny little electronics.
Debbie Harry and Chris Stein!
I recall getting together with my BFFs and spending lazy afternoons just listening to records…..
Natalie Wood and Elvis dated briefly in 1956. His second LP was released around the time of their courtship. There it is on the top of the pile!

These are lovely pictures of a forgotten era. Thanks for posting.
OMG Marilyn, Audrey and Marlon. Such wonderful pictures! <3
So! John Lennon owned a Guild Starfire?! (The beautiful guitar in the front of the shot). The man had great taste!
Goodness. Doesn’t any celebrity know how to hold records? There’s going to be finger prints all over them!
Great collection of photos.
Looks like Joan Collins was listening to “Swing Easy!”, one of Sinatra’s first, comeback recordings done after he arrived at Capitol Records.
Marlon Brando and Isabella!
Looks like Marilyn was stoned out of her gourd. Sad, really.

To Liz 14 July, If you live in S. FL, I have 60,000 records in my home, a real homey feeling.

Woops I commented on the wrong image.
