They’re just LOVELY!
Wow, for a girlscouting magazine some of those covers are as sophisticated and beautiful as anything you’d find on a high-end fashion magazine of the time such as Vogue or Harper’s. Lovely!
<used to be girl scout.
I love the Feb. 1935 cover… then, world peace wasn't impossible to imagine…
I wonder, is this where the "American Girls" dolls idea came from?
My goodness, the art on these covers are absolutely lovely! *v*
If you’re curious Kaitlyn, the idea for the American Girl dolls originated when the company founder noticed that dolls aimed at girls were either babies or adult women, but rarely a doll meant to be their own age. A visit to Williamsburg probably inspired her to base the collection around events in American history, hence the name ‘American Girl’.
The line does seem aware that they share the same name with the old Girl Scout magazines, though. In the artwork for a old ‘Read books’ poster featuring Kit, a girl from the 1930s, there’s a cover for one of the ‘The American Girl’ magazines featured here.
