I like the way they thought everything would develop but there’d still be housewives.
they certainly got the sawdust right! cellulose, anyone?
Igniting oil slicks to eliminate hurricanes! Street illumination by miniature atomic suns! Personal helicopters! Plastic hose-down houses and dissolvable dishes!
But then again, automated production lines, weather forecasting, microwave ovens, antibiotics and 85-year lifespans, suburbs and teardrop-shaped cars, Skype and online shopping, were pretty much right on.
Funny, though, the comment about the moon. They had no idea how close they were to not just an orbit but a lunar landing in 1950.
Bill Thompson–
They had no idea how close they were to a lunar landing? We’ve been waiting 62 years and still haven’t landed.
Yes in 1950 if they only knew that 19 years later in 1969 we would actually land on the moon Im sure they would have been amazed! I am glad we are planning on going back soon!
i, too, found it funny that they thought the male/female roles wouldn’t change. the little woman would still be at home and the man would be the bread winner. notice how they said “he paid 5,000 for the house,” not THEY?
New York to San Fransisco in 2 hours? god, I wish….
