Elvis meets Nixon, 1970

‘On December 21, 1970, Elvis Presley paid a visit to President Richard M. Nixon at the White House. The meeting was initiated by Presley, who wrote Nixon a six-page letter requesting a visit and suggesting that he be made a “Federal Agent-at-Large” in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.’

Everyone should find out about Elvis’ trip to see Nixon – seriously, The actual meeting was just the icing on the cake on one of the funniest stories I’ve ever heard. My favourite part was Elvis deciding he was going to ‘go among the people’ as it were and fly on a commercial airline. Problem was, The King wouldn’t travel anywhere without being armed. So, he rocks up and flys under the name Joe Incognito(seriously), then has to haul ass to catch his flight, runs through the metal detectors and sets them off. He doesn’t get stopped but has the attendant scream after him ‘Sir, you have to come back!’ to which Elvis replies while running off ‘Don’t worry, it’s just ma gun!’. Also he’s completely apparently off his head on pills in these photo’s – ELVIS RULES!

Elvis was so cool! I did know the story and only he could get away with it. It’s been years since I’ve been to Graceland but he had A LOT of guns and honorary badges.
