Ah the good old days when you used to get a glimpse of stocking top!

Where did these come from? I love them! A shower, maybe? or a card club?

How old is middle-aged? My goodness, there are some sturdy looking ladies in that crowd.

This reminds me so much of some of my relatives.Women looked older then, but that was when people were allowed to be grownups.

I’m sure they aren’t but……quite a few of them look like men in drag.

Back when all women wore dresses and pearls everyday.

What stood out for me is they almost all have drinks! Also, they do look much older than middle aged.

Wow, these totally remind me of my great-grandmother & her group of ladies, only they were more 70s than 60s & never drank alcohol or smoked, either way, these pics were always what my brain conjures up as “old ladies” from when I was a kid in the 70s.

This is totally what Mad Men is going for in their clothes & sets & they definitely get it right.

I’d also bet that almost all of them, except for that slut Maude with her fancy spaghetti straps & no hose, are wearing bras, maybe girdles, stockings or pantyhose & none of them have pierced ears it’s clip-ons all the way!. Even the oneswearing sandals are wearing nylons!!

Most, if not all, of the furnishings & accessories in these pics would go for big money on Ebay. I’d also kill for most of those shoes too.

Love to know where these were taken. The 60′s style revolution took different twists in various
geo regions. The best pic, editorially, contrasts the Bazaar cover with the fashion ideal of these gals. I had a visceral memory of the jolt the revolution caused. In retrospect, not unlike the one playing out in the costume drama Downton Abbey.

I love this photographs. It is like looking at my family album of my Grandmother, her sisters and cousins. Cigarettes, drinks, all of it. Yes, they all dressed that way to. I really miss some of that style in the era. Classy.

Most of these ladies are mid 40′s I’d guess, so middle aged. Remember not as many women coloured their hair back then, and of course the makeup, hairstyles and fashions also age them. Nowadays middle aged people look much younger than they used to.

I’m wearing the exact same frames as the 5th woman from the top was wearing; I found them in a thrift shop. It’d be really interesting if she were the previous owner.

  • OK, this is what grandmas are SUPPOSED to look like!

Fashions for the over-30 set were older-looking back then. If you look at pictures of my mom and my friends’ moms taken at about this time (when they were in their early 30s), they frequently look older than they do in pictures taken several years later! No wonder turning 30 was so depressing…

the woman in the very first pic is in a couple of the other pics and she has an attitude! you can tell by her face and demeanor, she’s my favorite!
