Thank you to Bronson Trevor III and Fans in a Flashbulb
Photographic evidence of pink as the colour for boys.
These are absolutely gorgeous autochromes however amateur they may be. Of course having beautiful subjects helps. Thank you to the Trevors.
Amazing. Those are one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
Incredible. Wow.
These colorized photos help make the period and costumes of the period more real to those of us now who view black and white or sepia as being such a different time that it seems a dream.
Very beautifully done, and I never would have guessed this is the work of an amateur.
Believe it or not, Aria, these are not colorized, but are original colour photographs.
Chris, last night I looked up how to do an autochrome since I know there’s a process used today, a digital process, to add color to non-color photographs, then found out that, while color film itself didn’t exist at the time these were taken, that there was a process to take color photos, and it is VERY complex and involved! I sat here wondering how on earth someone thought to try what ended up working!
John Bond Trevor, Sr.’s father-in-law, Lucius Kellogg Wilmerding, was a member of the NYG&B. His member biography is available in our elibrary to NYG&B members. Caroline Wilmerding Trevor and Caroline Murray Wilmerding, pictured in these autochromes are mentioned in Lucius Wilmerding’s NYG&B member biography.
Did you notice the reflection of the camera and the photgrapher in the picture of the ‘unidentified friend’? Simply incredible!
How alive they all seem.
Thanks
These pics are amazing. They really bring the past to life. I want to see more!!
