The graffiti on those trains is a disgrace, I hope they have got on top of this in the last 40 years!
Unfortunately they have. I think there’s a lot of beauty and character in that graffiti.
Yes, any time a car gets tagged, they take it off at the end of the line.
They need to post these pictures so people remember what a scumhole the train was 40 yrs ago.
They got on top of it I think sometime in the 80′s, in fact at this point the cars have been graffiti-free for much longer than they were ever plagued with graffiti.
Think that’s me in the 5th photo down. Or it could have very well been me. As a social worker I travel all over the Bronx. No one I work with can imagine what it used to look like. I can’t wait to show ‘em these photos.
I knew something was coming in ’07 not because of wall street but because I began to see more graffiti and homelessness despite the belief that everything was riding high. A few months later came the crash
When this whole tag craze exploded? I thought it was rather late 70′s thing..
Beautiful pictures!
I agree, there is beauty and artistic value in the graffiti. I would love to see more photos from this timeframe!
